Call for Abstracts

The Canadian Regional Science Association / Association canadienne des sciences régionales seeks abstracts in English and French for its first annual virtual conference.
What is a virtual conference? Much as at a conventional conference, all participants will view presentations by their colleagues on some aspect of regional science research. However, in the virtual conference it is not necessary for participants to assemble in one place. Instead, all presentations will be recorded in advance and posted to a conference web site. Over the active period from November 20 to December 9, 2011, the presentations will be available for viewing at any time. Viewers can ask questions and make comments, which will be posted to the conference web site along with responses from the authors. During the second week of the active period there will be “live” discussion sessions where paper presenters and other participants interact in real time.
Abstracts in all areas of regional science are welcome, but presentations on the following conference themes are especially encouraged:
• Transportation, Logistics and Distribution (TLD) Activities and Regional Development
• Urban and Regional Economic Modelling
• Regional Economic Development Policy
Students (graduate and undergraduate) are especially encouraged to submit abstracts. There will be a student paper competition with a prize of $500 for the best paper.
Participants are also encouraged to organize sessions of 3 to 5 papers on topics of interest to regional scientists. If you would like to organize a session contact Bill Anderson at bander@uwindsor.ca.
To submit an abstract, go to http://canadianregionalscienceassociation.wordpress.com/. After your abstract has been received we will contact you to explain how to record your presentation online. The only software you will needed is Adobe Flash Player (free download) and the only equipment you will need is a computer with a microphone and web camera (most laptops include both, or you can use an external microphone and camera). The critical dates for paper presenters are the following:
Final Date for Abstracts: October 17, 2011
Final Date to Submit Recorded Presentations: November 14, 2011

There is no registration fee for the 2011 Virtual Conference
